I googled "stroganoff no mushrooms" & came across this & really hoped to find a recipe without mushrooms. My spouse & I despise mushrooms (& he is highly allergic) so I'm always looking for a great recipe without. He actually hates sour cream, but for some reason he is ok with it in stroganoff. So if anyone put there has a really yummy version of mushroom-less stroganoff, there are thousands of us out here looking! Thank you! (ps- I did love tip on how to keep the meat from getting dry!)

Made this recipe this morning. Very easy and tasty. I did the Buttermilk overnight+ for the Top Roast since my grandmother always comments on the "toughness". She likes it but she still thinks Top Roast is only for "stews". However, this is a good recipe and I would recommend making it anyway. I thought I would add a review for those who might be curious.

Thank you for sharing the recipe.

I was looking for inspiration since my dad is coming for dinner again (he comes over every Sunday since my Mom was hospitalized with dementia 4 years ago and I try not to repeat menu's - crazy, huh?). I find tastespotting.com and foodgawker.com to be the best recipe resources in the universe and your recipe for stroganoff is simmering as I write this. The house smells amazing...my husband even wandered away from a football game on TV to find out what I was cooking!!! I felt compelled to return to your blog to thank you. Virtual hugs to you!

This looks wonderful. Just maybe the best Beef Stroganoff recipe I've seen. Will most certainly give it a try over the next couple of weeks. Love the post. Thanks for the recipe.

Yet I kind of want to try it anyway, but the recipe intimidates me! All this frying of parts of things, sounds hard!

You're absolutely right, stroganoff requires mushrooms. It's just not the same without them. I was in your husband's camp with the mushrooms are gross thing, but though I will never want to just chuck a handful into my mouth, there are things that just taste better with fungi.

This recipe looks incredible. Growing up in the midwest, stroganoff meant Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Substance of Dubious Origins, and I am looking forward to trying this out and erasing those flavor memories forever.

Dave: I'm glad someone shares my pain! I like just about everything that is cooked well. Except maybe liver. Liver is Ewww.
